Many people call Jerusalem the epicenter of faith. Over the last few weeks, we have seen how this little city in the Middle East can send shock waves around the globe.
Despite a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, tensions are rising in the United States. Antisemitism, particularly against Jewish Americans, is skyrocketing!
In the last seven days, we have seen:
- Fights between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protestors
- Fireworks thrown near Jewish-owned businesses in New York City
- Vandalism on synagogues across the country
- An increase in online antisemitic incidents (17,000 tweets used variations of the phrase “Hitler was right” according to the Anti-Defamation League)
We need to fight this deadly disease and need allies from everywhere—anyone who is willing to stand up and say, “Stop the hate!”
According to a recent FBI report, incidents targeting Jewish people were up 14 percent. There were 953 crimes against Jewish people reported in 2019, compared to 835 in 2018. That is three antisemitic incidents per day.
Now, because of the conflict in the Middle East, we fear those numbers will increase.
