The Bible calls the children of Israel the chosen people. What does this mean?
In Genesis 12, God made a covenant with Abram, whose name He changed to Abraham (father of nations), and this Abrahamic covenant includes the promise from God to Abraham and his descendants,
“And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” (Genesis 12:3).
One reason God chose the Jewish people was to bless the whole earth in wondrous ways, including the promises God made regarding the Redeemer, the Lord Jesus, who would save us from our enemy, Satan. The chosenness of the Jewish people is to bless the world through the Messiah.
Genesis 15 makes clear that this covenant is irrevocable—the Jewish people will always be the chosen people and will continually bless the earth.
