Today is Yom Yerushalayim—Jerusalem Day! We can’t be more thrilled to celebrate this wonderful day that honors the Holy City! This holiday commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem under Israeli control in June of 1967 during the Six Day War. The Six Day War was a miraculous victory in which the Israeli army won back the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights, thus preserving Jewish control of the land. Many Jewish people see this as a miracle of God, and an example of His faithfulness to His eternal promise to return the Jewish people to the land of Israel after 2,000 years of exile!
We rejoice in this promise—yet we know that Jerusalem is still a city in conflict and will be until the Messiah Jesus returns. What can we do in the meantime? We can pray for the peace of Jerusalem! Psalm 122:6 says, “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you prosper.’” Won’t you join with me in prayer today?
In Messiah,
Mitch
